Policjanci Wydziału Ruchu Drogowego, którzy zostali skierowani na miejsce przez dyżurnego ustalili, że odpowiedzialność za zdarzenie ponosi kierująca Oplem Astra 22-letnia mieszkanka gm. Rakoniewice.
Kobieta widząc nadjeżdżający szynobus zatrzymała swój pojazd, jednak miejsce w którym to zrobiła nie zapewniło maszyniście możliwości bezkolizyjnego przejazdu. Gdy kierująca Oplem zreflektowała się, że przednia część pojazdu znajduje się w zasięgu szynobusu na cofnięcie było już za późno.
